Presenting a keynote address at the National Heroes Acre, Mugabe paid tribute to his security forces for their continuing role “in securing our peace and stability”. “Thank you for your selfless sacrifice, thank you for a free and independent
Zimbabwe. Thank you for restoring the dignity of the African people, the dignity of the Zimbabwean people and the heritage of our forefathers. Thank you for giving us our land back,” the president said.
Mugabe repeated the mantra that he has repeatedly used to try and whip up nationalism in the face of acute economic problems in Zimbabwe that the southern African country will never be a colony again.
