CHIPINGE Seven MDC activists were abducted at gunpoint in Ward 7, Chimanimani East, on Monday night by state security agents and a Zanu (PF) Manicaland provincial member, Janet Knight. They are; Joseph and Tinashe Chikware, Stanley, David and Wilson Kuretu, John Jiyamwa and Matibiri Nyando. They were accused of being too vocal at a recent COPAC meeting.
According to eyewitnesses, property which included generators, solar power and furniture was destroyed by the abductors.
Armed CIO agents, Charles Jambaya and Themba Manaiwa, on Monday assaulted the MDC-T Chipinge district chairperson, Perpertua Pedzisayi for mobilizing supporters to vote against the Kariba Draft constitution.
They broke her right arm in front of many witnesses, but the police have made no arrests. The same CIO agents assaulted a disabled teacher at a school in the area and broke his arm as well, said Makoni South MP, Pishayi Muchauraya.
In another incident during the weekend in the same district, an MDC truck carrying the provincial youth organizing secretary, Dennis Manguva, was blocked from entering Clearwater Estate by militia armed with AK 47 rifles.
The assailants attacked the truck and villagers at the scene, threatening to kill them if they attended Constitutional meetings in the area, added Muchauraya.
Muchauraya said various stations in Chipinge district have reported that Zanu (PF) was hijacking the process by using its legislators and war veterans to threaten and intimidate people.
The MDC has raised concerns that the Zanu (PF) Senator for Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe Oriah Kabayanjiri and Monica Mutsvangwa, senator for Chimanimani, are in the COPAC team but are abusing the process to harass and intimidate MDC supporters.
The strongly Zanu (PF) District Administrator for Chipinge, Noel Mundeta, who is responsible for providing dates and venues for the Copac meetings, has given false information to the public via postings at schools, while secretly advising Zanu (PF) structures on the correct dates and venues.
Losing Chimanimani West Member of Parliament and former Zanu (PF) minister Munacho Mutezo has orchestrated a campaign of terror in his area.
Mutezo a close ally of President Robert Mugabe is reportedly working with Zanu (PF) war veterans and a Lieutenant Colonel Murecherwa from the Zimbabwe National Army to intimidate MDC supporters in Nyanyadzi.
Murecherwa is reportedly assigning junior soldiers to lead a horrific campaign of
violence and intimidation in the area. The armed soldiers are allegedly using threats and physical violence against the MDC supporters.
Mutezo is telling the people not to respect Morgan Tsvangirai as Prime Minister He said the GPA is a non-event. He openly told people at a recent meeting that Zanu (PF) is in control and that Tsvangirai will never rule this country, said Jonathan Mapara, a local MDC councilor.
