MSU student bannings an affront to democratic rights

The recent outlawing of two student leaders from the Midlands State University by the Vice-chancellor is purely criminal to say the least and a felonious affront to freedom of association.

The student banning leaders letters allege that the students acting in concert with Mr Obert Masaraure the Zimbabwe National Students Union ZINASU President made supposedly disparaging remarks about the propriety of the institutions Vice-Chancellor and were therefore banned from the university, therefore I could not help but recall the heydays of apartheid when the likes of Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo were declared banned men. I tend to question the authenticity of the African liberation when more men are being banned while the said liberators do not ever raise a finger to query the acting vice-criminal of MSU for his delinquent, apartheid machinations how could a student be banned for raising questions about the impropriety of the Vice chancellor, surely this is orchestrated mischief on the part of the government and their surrogates. History will judge them harshly for crimes against a generation.

These students will now join the grotesque abode of misery that prior activists and student leaders (for tragedy is the fate of heroes) have since succumbed to through the loss of their careers and livelihoods. The arbitrary indignity of student s should surely be a matter of concern which calls for concerted efforts by even the regional and international community. The Government of National Unity shall bear collective responsibility for these actions. My heart goes out to the banned students, “to all those who talked to be free, I salute you.” You are indeed men after my heart we shall fight on, we will trdge on until academic freedoms are granted. The struggle continues.

I remain
