Zimfest talks to………… Jusa Dementor

1. What does playing at Zimfests Zimbabwe Rocks concert mean to you and what can we expect from your set?
It means a lot for me to be huddled up with the other great artists on the Zimfest stage especially on their tenth anniversary. It's a great opportunity to show the seriousness of our urban vibe to our beloved countrymen and I really am grateful to those at Zimfest who have had a commitment to showcasing Zimbabwean music from the get go. I hope to give people a short sweet thri

2. Are you familiar with some of the other acts performing at the show? And which other Zimbabwean artists are on your radar at the moment?

Yes I am familiar with all the acts billed to perform this year. The line up is a great representation of Zimbabweaness and I am sure those attending will enjoy. I have so many Zimbabwean Artists on my radar right now. Especially Shingai Shoniwa, Cynthia Mare and Tinashe who are currently doing a lot of positive stuff for Zimbabwe.

3. How did you convince your mother to let you pursue music and not medicine or law?

I did not have to convince her, my mother and my father have always been supportive of everything I do. They always try to keep me focused on whats important but never did dictate my career path and this has given me a free spirit to peruse my dreams and follow my vision.

4. Your single, African Airhorn Dance has been an online smash. Can you tell us a bit about it?

Yes the Air Horn dance has done really well online and on the ground. The track has opened doors for me and the whole Zimbabwean urban music industry. I remember I was driving down to London from Derby (Im based in Derby) and I received a text message from my friend in South Africa who had just seen the video on MTV Base. That was an awesome feeling. I was also invited to the press launch for the forthcoming Africa Music Awards. I had no idea that I had been nominated, but that too was a great feeling. I am the only representative from Zimbabwe. The awards are on Oct 15th so Im hoping I can do the country proud.

5. Eight months into 2010, what has been your highlight? What are you looking forward to in the rest of the year?

The highlight has been producing the Red Rat Track. It has given so many youth in Zimbabwe hope as well as providing a track the whole of Zimbabwe can be proud of. The song has done so much for the youth and Zimbabwe internationally. It has also been in the Top 20 charts in Zimbabwe and has rocked parties all over Zimbabwe. Red Rat also played a big part of my initial interest in Dancehall and it has been a honour me to work on a track with him about Zimbabwe a dream come true.
