ACR appeals judgment

HARARE - The British firm embroiled in a legal battle with the Zimbabwe government for control of the Marange claims has appealed this month's High Court ruling that rescinded its title to the controversial diamond fields.

African Consolidated Resources (ACR) said that the hearing of its rescission appeal in the Supreme Court would be subject to completion of various formalities which could extend for more than six months. High Court judge Charles Hungwe made a surprise U-turn on his own September 2009 judgement that gave the British firm rights to the Marange claims.

He overturned his own ruling “in light of new revelations”. ACR said it had “extremely strong” prospects of success on appeal, based on legal opinion so far received.
