Mysterious deaths shock villagers

MASIKANA - Villagers in this rural ward 19 area under Chief Svosve were left in a state of shock this week by mysterious deaths which claimed three lives in seven days.

Last week Wednesday, a teenage village girl, Aplonia (18), slipped and drowned while trying to cross a local Safari Dam. She was on her way to see off a sister to school. Children cross the river regularly and nothing suggested someone would drown and lose their life in the shallow dam, said an elderly villager who identified himself as Kennius Musonza.

Last Saturday two children from Dhlakhama family, Badza village in the same ward, died mysteriously without noticeable illnesses.

Elders from the village were at a loss for possible causes of the deaths which they described as a bed omen.

Though drowning of the teenager could easily be dismissed as a natural accident, what of the two Dhlakhama kids? The kids looked healthy and were aged between two and three years. Maybe an unknown epidemic infiltrated into our area. We call upon responsible authorities such as a local ward councillor and medical staff at Masikana Clinic, to assist an investigation into the cause of deaths of the innocent minors, said another visibly worried villager.
