Cops cook case against Biti

biti_finance_missingHARARE - The Police Serious Fraud Department is allegedly cooking up frivolous charges of serious abuse of office against MDC-T Finance Minister, Tendai Biti (Pictured).

A senior police detective revealed that his department had been tasked with fabricating serious charges against Biti, who has effectively starved Zanu (PF) of its previously unbridled access to government coffers.

We have just started working on a docket incriminating Biti for serious abuse of office. If everything moves according to plan, he will be kicked out of office and put under police investigation before end of this year. He is expected to be replaced at the ministry of finance with someone more generous with the keys to the state coffers. Zanu (PF) blames Biti for its difficult financial circumstances. He brought transparency to the government and plugged loopholes previously used by Zanu (PF) to siphon state funds to bankroll party activities, said the detective, who cannot be named for obvious reasons.

Asked what charges could be framed against Biti, the detective indicated that the docket would take shape in a few weeks time and there were a wide range of possible charges to be preferred. Whatever charges preferred against the MDC-T Secretary General would be serious enough to force him out of government, said the source confidently.

He added that officers from the Serious Fraud Department of the CID were deployed around the country to sniff out and frame charges against MDC activists and influential officials. Zanu (PF) appears determined to use the judicial system to tarnish the image of the MDC and try to force them out of government ahead of elections next year.
