Police linked to disappearance

JOHANNESBURG - A media report has identified the two Tshwane metro police sergeants linked to the disappearance of a Zimbabwean teenager on Monday.

Leon Chimuta has not been seen since he and five other Zimbabweans, including his brother James, were allegedly assaulted and dropped off separately on the outskirts of Pretoria nearly a month ago. Police have told reported that they have not identified suspects or made arrests because the investigator has not set up an identification parade. Tshwane metro police GPS tracking data shows one of the Region Six vehicles leaving the area on the night of Leon Chimutas disappearance.

Sources said a female constable booked the bakkie out in her name but two sergeants, whose names are known but cannot be published at this stage, asked to use it. The GPS data also shows the exact route the sergeants drove that night, which is now information the police could use to start searching for the teen. Nearly a month after the 17-year-old went missing, the police said they have made no arrests and are still collecting information.

Meanwhile, Leons parents call his brother James everyday, asking if he has been found because he has not arrived home in Zimbabwe.
