The tri-annual exhibition is the biggest fair in the Southern Region and attracts over 250 buyers as well as visitors from Africa and the rest of the world.
Head of delegation and organizer to the fair, Tommy Duncan from The Christian Friends of Southern Africa, told ***The Zimbabwean that a total of 50 companies would travel to South Africa for the exhibition set for November 29 December 3, 2010.
Duncan said the exhibition offered local firms an opportunity to market their products and strike deals, as a number of business forums and seminars had been lined-up with major South African companies.
A group of about 50 Zimbabwean companies involved in agriculture will in June take part at the Agrictech International Exhibition in South Africa, Duncan said, adding that the number had been increased from 25 in 2009 after local products impressed the South African authorities. Duncan urged local firms to take advantage of the international fair.
This fair presents an opportunity for our companies to market their goods to the international world and boost their exports, he said.
South Africa is regarded as one of the few countries in the world with a vibrant agriculture industry. Of the more than US$30 billion raised from South Africas exports every year, agriculture accounts for about US$2 billion annually.
South Africa has a strong agriculture base that can enable the country to sustain itself even under severe and longer drought periods.
South Africa is one of the leading suppliers of greenhouse and horticulture equipments to most African countries. The nation is also the second largest exporter of cut flowers and a leading producer of egg and poultry.
