Senator Jabulani Ndhlovu dies

Makoni South MP, Hon. Pishai Muchauraya who is facing fabricated charges of undermining the authority of the President has applied at Murambinda Magistrates court in Buhera for his case to be referred to the Supreme Court. A hearing by the magistrate is expected to make a ruling on Hon. Muchauraya application on 28 December, 2010.

In another case involving Hon. Shua Mudiwa, the Attorney Generals office (AG), has agreed that the magistrate who convicted him in 2009 on charges of kidnapping a 12 year old girl ignored the basic principles in handling a criminal case. Hon. Mudiwa is the MP for Mutare West in Manicaland province. Manicaland magistrate, Hlekani Mwayera sentenced Hon. Mudiwa two other co accused to seven years in prison for kidnapping a 12 year old girl and isolating her in a room without food for two days in 2007. As a result of this and other ommissions by the magistrate, the AGs office said it would not contest Hon. Mudiwas appeal against both conviction and sentence.

The senator for Hwange constituency in Matebeleland North province, Senator Jabulani Ndhlovu has died. Senator Ndlovu died this morning at Mater Dei hospital in Bulawayo where he was admitted after being involved in a car accident along the Hwange Victoria Falls road last month. He was born on 12 October 1959 in Gweru and was the MDC Matebeleland North provincial secretary for legal affairs. He joined the MDC in 1999. He is survived by his wife and five children, Nancy, Violet, Amanda, Nkosilathi and Njabulo. Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.

Today, the MDC joined the rest of the world in commemorating the World Aids Day. This years theme is; Universal Access and Human Rights. In a statement, the MDC called upon the inclusive government to ensure that the rights of the people are protected and well guarded to stop the spread of this deadly virus. It is regrettable that HIV/Aids, remains one of the biggest threats to development in Zimbabwe because of the critical shortage of anti retrovirals in public hospitals. The shortages have exacerbated the conditions of those living with HIV/Aids. Access to ARV drugs remains low with a national cover of only 40 percent for adults and 57 percent for children. The prevalance rate remains high at 13.7 percent for adults aged 15 to 49 years.

Meanwhile, village heads in rural Mashonaland East province have joined Zanu PFs intimidation drive and are forcing villagers to buy Zanu PF membership cards or face eviction if they refuse. In wards 20 and 21 of Murehwa South constituency, the village heads, with the assistance of the Zanu PF Murehwa South DCC officials and Central Committee member, Lilian Zemura, are telling villagers that if they did not have a Zanu PF card, they risked losing their land and or lives.
