Chief Mhaka Mataruse, who is in his late 60s, confirmed the reports, saying the Zanu (PF) youths accused him of being in secret union with the MDC-T while posing as a Zanu (PF) apologist in public.
He said the youths have since started banning all alleged MDC-T gatherings.
We are living in fear, particularly myself although I am apolitical, the Chief said. These youths were not there when elderly people like us witnessed this country gaining independence and now they act as if they actually led the struggle.
He said a number of teachers and business people in his area were on the run following the terror that the Zanu (PF) youths started to unleash.
He also claimed that at Mataruse clinic, nurses and other critical staff were in hiding as they feared for their lives since they were suspected of supporting the MDCT.
Speaking on the sidelines of the notorious evening gatherings branded pungwes, the
Chief said with the election talk doing the rounds in many parts of Mberengwa, Zanu (PF) militia was running marathon evening meetings, churning out party propaganda, intimidating ordinary community members and forcing them to buy Zanu (PF) membership cards at US $13 each.
