Five Student Activists Appear before a Masvingo Magistrate

solidarity_peace_trustFive student activists Zivanai Muzorodzi, Joshua Chinyere, Arnold Batsirai, Godfrey Kurauone and Tobias Mango this morning appeared before a Masvingo magistrate facing charges of Public indecency dating back to the Masvingo Polytechnic demonstration in October last year.

The five students were served with summons to appear in court after the state had indicated that all evidence was available for the trial to begin. The students were however further remanded to the 22nd of February after all the state witnesses failed to appear in court today.

The Student Solidarity Trust is continually worried about the inefficiency of the countrys judicial system which ends up prolonging cases and keeping students out of school due to incompetence and its partisan nature. Considering that not even one state witness appeared, it is still baffling why the state wants to continue with this case at all. These frivolous cases have forced students to lose out on vital time in class as the state connives with school authorities to frustrate students.
