War vets ban The Zimbabwean

thezimbabweanNYANGA Self-styled war veterans and soldiers here have told The Zimbabwean vendors to stop selling the title or face beating and confiscation of the newspapers.

Vendors at Nyamhuka business centre in Nyanga were last week manhandled by the uniformed soldiers from the All Arms Battle School, said vendor Adam Mpofu.

He was ordered to remove the newspapers from his selling point and keep them at home.

They told me that the newspapers carried stories that are poisonous to Zanu (PF). And they will deal with me if I continue selling the editions, said Mpofu.

Meanwhile, the same group is reportedly moving door-to-door in Ruda beating up people who are listening to foreign radio broadcasts and confiscating radios donated by NGOs.

All those listening to radio stations broadcasting from outside the country are being told they will be identified, because they are accused of influencing others to support the MDC in the area, said MDC-T councillor David Gatsi.

Gatsi said there some incidents were reported to police in Nyanga and Buhera but no arrests had been made so far.

The MDC Manicaland provincial spokesperson Pishai Muchauraya said his party was reporting cases of violence to the police and also attempting to discourage the perpetrators, but nothing was being done.
