According to a statement by Kris Graham, the president of Lightning board of directors where Mhlauri is employed as a director of coaching, the US club wants to hold onto the Zimbabwean at all costs.
Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) had offered Mhlauri an enticing monthly salary of US$10 000 to take charge of the Warriors. But the US club is believed to be making moves to hold onto the coach, who has already agreed in principle to return home and have another dance with the Warriors.
But still ZIFA sources maintain that Mhlauri will be coming to coach the team ahead of the crucial African Cup of Nations qualifier against Mali in Bamako next month and that they have since secured a sponsor to take care of the coach’s salary.
Charles Mhlauri is our Director of coaching. We are lucky to have him, as he has been very instrumental in our success, with some of our teams leading in their age group regionally and our club growing exponentially. We are aware that he has been offered the position to coach Zimbabwe. It is our desire to have him live and continue to grow the club here (in the US) Graham said in a statement.
A ZIFA board member told The Zimbabwean that the deal to bring Mhlauri back as Warriors coach has since been sealed.
Its a done deal, said the source. We now have him as the substantive coach of the Warriors. What is only left now are house keeping issues, then ratification before he is unveiled.
