Wanted: a national vision

mdc_logoIt looks as though we are going to end up with four political parties all claiming to be MDC MDC-T, MDC-M, MDC-N and MDC 99. This fragmentation of its opposition is Zanu (PF)s dream come true. Add the newly-reconstituted Zapu into the mix and you have a recipe for electoral victory for the party we all want to get rid of without them even having to rig the vote.

Why on earth can we not see the bigger picture just for once and subsume our egos and personality differences for the greater good of our nation?

Despite its factions and bitter in-fighting, the glue that holds Zanu (PF) together is the sure knowledge that united they stand, divided they fall. Why can those who have sacrificed so much to topple Zanu (PF) not also embrace this vital fundamental truth?

There is no way MDC-M, MDC-N, MDC 99 or Zapu can ever win the next election. They simply dont have a snowballs chance in hell of winning. All they can possibly succeed in doing as happened with Mavambo and MDC-M in 2008 is splitting the anti-Zanu (PF) vote and handing victory to Mugabe on a platter.

If the combined anti-Zanu (PF) vote in March 2008 had gone to one party, that party would have won a landslide victory, and Zimbabwe today would be a completely difference country. Foreign aid would have flooded in, industry would have begun to re-build, the diamond billions would be flowing into the national coffers to improve the lives of everyone, millions from the diaspora would have returned home to work and play, people would sleep peacefully in their beds at night without being herded to pungwes by Zanu (PF) thugs.

With elections looming, is it to much to ask to see the emergence of a broad front that will put the country first? A coalition that will seek to contest the election on one ticket to make it crystal clear that people are either voting for Zanu (PF) or against it.

Zimbabwe right now is in desperate need of a leadership with a clear vision. We cannot afford the luxury of a plethora of political parties.
