Improve pension pay out-CCZ

HARARE - Zimbabwe Consumer watchdog, Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ), said that the National Social Security Authority (NASSA) should urgently improve pension payouts.

CCZ executive director, Rosemary Siyachitema, said NSSAs pension payouts were too meagre to sustain a decent living. She described the US$25 monthly payout as “insulting and inhumane”. The Zimbabwe poverty datum line currently stands at US$500.

Pensioners complained that they were making long journeys to withdraw a paltry US$25, which was not enough to meet their daily needs.

“It is costly for one to travel from remote areas to a local post office to withdraw US$25 because transport costs are very high. NSSA should review their payouts as a matter of urgency,” she said.
