CCZ executive director, Rosemary Siyachitema, said NSSAs pension payouts were too meagre to sustain a decent living. She described the US$25 monthly payout as “insulting and inhumane”. The Zimbabwe poverty datum line currently stands at US$500.
Pensioners complained that they were making long journeys to withdraw a paltry US$25, which was not enough to meet their daily needs.
“It is costly for one to travel from remote areas to a local post office to withdraw US$25 because transport costs are very high. NSSA should review their payouts as a matter of urgency,” she said.
