I am comfortable under Macheso – Gomba

HARARE - Orchestra Mberikwazvos drummer, Obert Gomba, says he is working comfortably under his boss Alick Macheso.

In an interview with The Zimbabwean last Saturday the gifted drummer, who is affectionately known as Mabanan’ana (Thunderstorm), said he was enjoying a fruitful career under the talented bassist Macheso. “My time with Macheso has been the most remarkable in my career because the man is wonderful. I have no problems in working with him. He treats me like his brother and our musical relationship is marvellous,” he said.

Gomba, formerly with the ZORA Master, Leonard Zhakata, joined the Orchestra Mberikwazvo band in 2003 to replace Thompson Chauke who absconded during a UK tour. The talented drummer said his best music project with Macheso so far was the recording of Zvinoda Kutendwa, the latest offering from Macheso that feature the plug tracks Tafadzwa Nyarara and Nguva Yekutenda.

“I have been with Macheso for almost eight years and I have recorded numerous albums with him, but the latest album Zvinoda Kutendwa is my best. I have never played the drums the way I played them on this album,” reckoned Gomba. The drummer pleaded with the music fans to consider drummers as important members of the band.

I am also important. The fans should also recognise and appreciate my works because I also get the band moving. I am the one who complements the guitarists.” Gomba said he would use the experience that he has gained to teach other aspiring drummers.
