Thembo, a former Highlanders player, appeared before Kwekwe magistrate Tendai Mahwe facing assault and malicious injury to property and pleaded not guilty. Allegations against him are that on 16 February, Michael Arifiero arrived at his home and was told that Thembo and his brother Chenjerai were looking for him and had made threats on his life.

Arifero decided to go to the police to make a report, but on the way he met the two who then blocked his way. Chenjerai was holding an iron bar while Thembo a button stick. Chenjerai allegedly hit the roof of the complainants car, a Hyundai Accent.
