Seacom, which has also increased the capacity of its submarine cable, said recently that it has expanded its services to Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe, with planned expansion to several other countries on the cards.

This is a development we see as very integral to the continued expansion of the Seacom network in Africa and in particular to countries that have had limited access to broadband connectivity, said Suveer Ramdhani, Seacoms product strategy head.

He added that Seacoms network expansion, which will provide accessibility to broadband-starved countries like Zimbabwe, where internet access is very limited, was coupled with an increasing resilience. The South African company recently acquired east and west coast submarine cable capacity. Ramdhani added that the companys approach of partnering with established players to provide broadband services would continue as the company developed its products and services based on resilience, service quality and flexibility in line with customers evolving needs.

The Seacom system has already connected countries including South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Djibouti and Ethiopia.
