The group, which was responsible for collecting radio and television licenses from the public, was early this week given their marching orders after one senior company official, identified as Zvinopenyapenya , reported that they were supporters of MDC.
Highly placed sources at ZBC told The Zimbabwean exclusively that Zvinopenyapenya, a known Zanu (PF) symphatiser, caused reshuffles at the companys Pockets Hill head offices licensing department early this week.
Zvinopenyapenya was transferred from Masvingo last week after an altercation with ZBC correspondent Desmond Duri, whom he also wanted to be fired. He was then deployed to the licensing department here and accused the whole team of supporting the MDC. He even gave management copies of recorded conversations of some of the dismissed officers discussing general political issues, the sources said.
Contacted for comment ZBC spokesperson Sivukile Simango said there was nothing unique in people being fired.
Why would you want to know? I think you know that people can be employed and fired, but I am not at liberty to disclose why they were fired, because its an issue which is between them and their employer. Claims that they were politically victimised are unfounded, Simango said.
The public broadcaster has for three decades been little more than an appendage of Zanu (PF).
