$1 million for poor students’ exam fees

HARARE - The government has set aside $1 million to pay exam fees for some 15,000 primary and secondary school students under the countrys Basic Education Assistance Module, a program intended to assist students from poor families.

Social welfare officials said the government will pay at least $66 for pupils sitting for Ordinary and Advanced level examinations. Applications for assistance must be filed by May 27 in line with the Zimbabwe School Examinations Councils closing date to register for November examinations.

Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association Director Roderick Fayayo said authorities should insure that the funds are distributed equally to all provinces.
