Some prominent MDC-T activists at the forefront of mobilizing support for the popular party have gone into hiding alleging harassment and intimidation by a panel of top military and security officials who have invaded Nyanyadzi. The notorious militia, working under instructions from Munacho Mutezo, are reported to be forcing other villagers to march in business centres to demonstrate against the PM.
We know what we want. We fully support Tsvangirai and there is no need for them to force us to demonstrate against him, said an MDC youth. Human rights activists and analysts interviewed said such episodes of violence and intimidation reflect determination on the part of Zanu (PF) to dominate the political space in the forthcoming elections.
I can confirm that we have been receiving reports that Zanu (PF) youth militia and war veterans have been disrupting MDC-T meetings in Nyanyadzi. They are now forcing the people to call Tsvangirai to remove sanctions, said Martin Matika from ZimRights. Our meetings are being interrupted by some members of the central intelligence and plain clothes police. Therefore people will not be free in expressing their independent views, said Daniel Gudhlanga of the MDC-T.
