Tekere will be buried at the National Heroes Acre. His burial date is pending approval from his wife and family. The Zanu PF Manicaland province requested that he be bestowed with that honour.
The decision to confer hero status on him was said to be unanimous. There was no opposition to the status when the Politburo met briefly on Thursday midday. Zanu PF adminstration secretary Didymus Mutasa confirmed that Tekere had been declared a national hero and declined to comment further saying he was driving.
Tekere died on Tuesday afternoon after a long battle with prostrate cancer. He was 74.
