Moyo and his nemesis, Senator Matson Hlalo, have reportedly buried the hatchet in their long-standing battle for supremacy in the city.
Violence marred the province’s elections, conducted in the run up to the party’s third national congress in February.
Hlalo challenged the elections, describing them as not free and fair and appealing for the results to be nullified. But the National Executive Council endorsed Moyo as the winner.
Last weekend Moyo embarked on a crusade in the province, meeting supporters in various wards and constituencies.
This was the first time Moyo, who is also the Minister of State Enterprises and Parastatals, had come to meet the electorate since being thrust into the hot seat four months ago.
In his address to supporters from Makokoba constituency, Moyo appealed for unity.
“Let us unite, let’s go forward. Our goal as MDC is not to fight among ourselves but to defeat our one and only enemy Zanu (PF). Please let’s work together for unity,” said Moyo.
“All this bickering has resulted in this city becoming a good breeding ground for whoever wants to form a political party. We have Zapu, Mthwakazi – you name them.
“I am told that there are some tribal clashes here. That should also come to an end because our party knows no colour or tribe, we are all one,” said Moyo.
Speaking at the same occasion the province’s woman organizing secretary, Helen Tsepiso Mpofu, said Moyo and Hlalo had decided to bury the hatchet for the sake of the party’s progress in the province. The party has scheduled a Peace Rally for White City stadium on 26 June.
