
He told thousands of party supporters at Mkoba stadium at the weekend that the MDC would not take instructions from President Robert Mugabe and Zanu (PF) on how Zimbabwe can move forward.
“If Mugabe insists on holding elections before a clear roadmap that produces a credible outcome is completed, he will go it alone. Our respect rests with SADC, the AU and all bodies that are facilitating restoration of democracy in this country,” said Tsvangirai.
“It is absurd that even before we hold a referendum on the new constitution, some people are already saying lets go for elections. There are processes that need to be completed first. Never should we have an election which is not legitimate.”
Tsvangirai said statements being issued by the securocrats to the effect that they would not obey an MDC Government should not be taken seriously.
“There is a difference between an institution’s policy and an individual’s opinion. If army chiefs think they want political power, then they should contest in elections 0 not merely make utterances clad in those uniforms,” he said.
