The country moved into the world’s top 40 following an impressive run in the Central African Rugby Cup.
The meant that the Sables have reached a new high since the rankings were introduced in October 2003 – having climbed five places a fortnight ago following victory against Uganda.
Zimbabwe climbed a further two places to 40th after a convincing 49-0 victory against Madagascar in the CAR Africa Cup.
Assisted by braces from Shingai Mpofu, Gardener Nechironga and Lloyd Machanjare David, this ensured 1.34 rating points, taking their two-week gain to 2.89 and closed the gap on Sweden in 39th to 2.02 points.
“Zimbabwe was the highest climber in the rankings during the said period, an indicator the sport is heading the right direction in the country,” IRB said, Rugby, because of sound management, has over the years defied the odds that have seen most sports in the country nosedive.
