
Manicaland province has lost close to 19 000 hectares of timber to veld fires and according to the Confederation of Industries Manicaland President Henry Nemaire, the province is losing US$120 million annually in the fires.
The representatives of the two organizations on Monday visited Chitehwe village in Mozambique and met other local stakeholders and villagers.
EMA education and publicity officer, Alice Chivese said: “These fires have destroyed our environment and property and they are also causing a threat to human life and timber industry”.
Wattle company community liaison officer, Maxwell Kuhudzai told Mozambicans to protect the environment. He added that the forests were an important source of employment for the local people.
