Nkomo, 76, was in the Hospital for a condition related to cancer that was diagnosed three years ago. In the past year, the Vice President has been flying to South Africa for treatment and check-ups.
A source told SW Radio Africa on Friday that Nkomo returned home this week and was ‘resting comfortably’, and that his doctors were evaluating the situation.
Specialists in South Africa reportedly allowed him to travel back home on seeing he was making good progress and may receive additional treatment in Harare.
On Thursday, Nkomo was back at work and chaired meetings on national healing. ZANU PF secretary for the Commissariat, Webster Shamu told journalists confirmed the Vice President had been to South Africa ‘for a regular check-up.’ Nkomo was appointed Vice President in 2009 following the death of Joseph Msika, also from cancer.
