Coventry leads Zim team for All – Africa Games

Swimming sensation, Kirsty Leigh Coventry, is set to lead Zimbabwe's quest for medals at the All-Africa Games to be staged in Maputo, Mozambique from 3-8 September.

Coventry, who won seven gold medals and three silvers at the last All Africa Games in 2007, has a huge responsibility on her shoulders as she leads the Zimbabwean team for the 2011 continental games.

The team includes Ngoni Makusha who finished fourth at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, missing out on a medal by just a centimetre, as well as sprinter Brian Dzingai, and sensei Samson Muripo who won the world kyokushin title in 2009.

The National Athletic Association of Zimbabwe used the Inter-Provincial Track and Field Championships at the University of Zimbabwe to select some of the athletes.

Other seasoned campaigners who are expected to bring home medals includeNelton Ndebele, Kelvin Pangiso, United States-based athlete – GabrielMvumvure and DavidTinago.

African Youth Champion in 100m and 200m, Tinashe Mutanga, Zuva Bvekerwa, Abdul Simbili, Francis Zimwara, Cornelious Mudzingwa and Dennis Bvekerwa will also be aiming for medals.

United States-based female triple jumper Namatirai Maugara, Letwine Mharakurwa, Grace Jumo, Sharon Taengwa, Faithful Goremusandu, Thandiwe Nyathi, Irene Ndoreka and Rutendo Nyahor should also fancy their chances at the continental games.
