Mukonoweshuro died early this morning ( Friday).
A close aide of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, the chain-smoking minister never fully recovered from an operation he underwent in South Africa recently.
The MDC said it learnt of the death of Mukonoweshuro with great shock. "The MDC can confirm Prof Mukonoweshuro passed on this morning after a short illness," Douglas Mwonzora, the MDC spokesman said.
A member of Parliament for Gutu South, Mukonoweshuro was one of Tsvangirai's closest advisors.
Burial arrangements have not yet been announced.
