This is the first time that the two, arguably Zimbabwe's best musicians to-date, have agreed to clash in a "no-holds barred' contest that ends at 6am in the country's third largest city.
The event is billed as "The Clash of The Titans" and colour posters feature Mtukudzi and Macheso standing back-to-back facing opposite sides to show that they have no "respect" for each other for this huge bash, an organiser said in an interview.
"They have agreed to share the spoils and play until morning," the organiser said. "This is also probably the first time that Tuku will be playing until morning because he usually ends at about 3am."
The show costs US$5 per person and could be sold out.
Both Mtukudzi and Macheso are international icons who are loved by all ages and races in Zimbabwe and abroad. Mtukudzi, however, rules the roost because he is currently Zimbabwe's Music Ambassador, together with gospel diva, Fungisai Suluma, now based in China.
Macheso’s current most popular hit is "Tafadzwa nyarara", a song about his second and controversial wife.
Both stars have vowed to give the crowd a "run for their hard earned cash". The show begins at 8pm and is scheduled to end at 6am on Sunday morning.
The curtain raiser is Sulumani Chimbetu, son of the late Simon "Chopper" Chimbetu, another prominent and very popular musician in Zimbabwe.
