Mutinhiri officially out

The Zanu (PF) Politburo on Wednesday upheld a provincial committee decision to expel Tracy Mutinhiri from the party following allegations that she had defected to Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai's MDC.

The party is now moving to recall her from Parliament and dismiss her as deputy minister.

Zanu (PF) spokesperson, Rugare Gumbo, said Mutinhiri was no longer a Zanu (PF) member.

"It was unanimously agreed that she should be dismissed from the party with immediate effect," Gumbo said. "Politburo has taken that position and the secretary for administration will advise her. We go by the decision of the disciplinary committee."

Mutinhiri had appealed to the party's national disciplinary committee, led by Chairman Simon Khaya-Moyo. The Politburo upheld her suspension by the Mashonaland East provincial disciplinary committee. The administration secretary, Didymus Mutasa, will now write to the Clerk of Parliament, Austin Zvoma, advising of her recall.
