JOMIC unacceptable: OOPZ

The Joint Monitoring Implementation Committee formed under the Global Political Agreement is an unacceptable and self-monitoring machine, according to the Organisation of Opposition Politics in Zimbabwe.

In an interview with The Zimbabwean last week the chairman of OOPZ, Moses Mashiri, said the two MDC formations and Zanu (PF) made up the parties in the GPA monitored by JOMIC and it was tantamount to self-monitoring and self-auditing.

“This is totally unacceptable, subjective and criminal. We have since written to SADC urging the regional body to dissolve the current JOMIC and replace it with members from opposition parties outside the coalition government and official drawn from Non Governmental Organisations,” said Mashiri.

“As an organisation we wrote to President Jacob Zuma telling him that that the present JOMIC membership is a mere gimmick and fallacy. It is useless, a waste of time and money because the committee is bound to be biased and selfish, thus would ignore its objectives,” he said.

Mashiri, a former student leader and a civil society member, said he would be selling his plans for political reform to foreign embassies in Zimbabwe.

“My organisation is there to pool resources and become a political party that will fill the gap sadly created by MDC-T’s decision to get into this dubious relationship with Zanu (PF). We are saddened by the fact that the MDC-T is dancing to the discordant tune of Zanu (PF),” he added.

He said it was high time Zimbabwe had a one government.
