Speaking to The Zimbabwean, Hillbrow Councillor Phineas Madisha praised ZAPU members who voluntarily participated in the clean-up drive.
“We are very pleased with ZAPU’s attitude towards participating in our initiatives. This clean-up drive is a community initiative. They did it for country and community. Our main aim through this initiative is to show people that the country belongs to everyone who lives in it, and Africans are here to stay, they are our brothers and we will continue working and promoting humanity amongst ourselves as Africans,” he said.
Zapu Johannesburg District Chairperson, Nomsa Mbatha, added that as Zimbabweans they had a mandate to engage with people, regardless of nationality, for a better society.
“We must work together as Africans, and many problems will be averted. We don’t want to see xenophobic attacks again and through these joint initiatives people will understand the history of Africa very well,” she said.
Busani Bhalagwe, ZAPU’s Provincial publicist, praised his party members for heeding the ANC’s call to participate in community programmes.
“ZAPU listens to people and does things for the people. We believe that as ZAPU we always engage in community and pioneer the spirit of Ubuntu (humanity).”
