It is the Word of God that gives true faith to our hearts. With all of today’s modern resources it is easy for us, as Christians, to turn on the television to a Christian channel, flip through a Christian magazine, read one of the numerous Christian books available today or to consult one of the many Christian experts, rather than think the issue through for ourselves. The following is a quote from the book, ‘Beyond Seduction: A return to biblical Christianity’ by Dave Hunt:
‘It is the personal responsibility and privilege of each individual Christian to be immersed in the Word of God, to study it diligently, to meditate upon it and to live by it. It was never God’s intent that an elite corps of specialists would be the sole proprietors of biblical truth, but that each Christian would know for himself what he believes and why he believes it on the basis of his personal study of the Word of God. Nor are pastors, evangelists or theologians to be the only ‘defenders of the faith’; that is the solemn responsibility of each believer.’
Romans 10:17 says that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. It is this Word of God that has been spoken to man and that Word of God became flesh in the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ and became manifest to mankind. We cannot and dare not neglect or misinterpret the Word as it is this eternal truth that makes up the faith that all must believe, in order to know God and be saved from His righteous judgment upon sinners.
It is this Word that has been given to the saints everywhere, not only to special class of person, to guard and to disseminate or to spread to the world about us. We will quote once again from the above book: ‘And to each of us, as saints, has been committed the sacred trust of defending the faith not only from attack by those outside the church but from an even more dangerous subversion by those within.’
In the Book of Acts Chapter 20: 26-32 Paul declares that he has not shunned from declaring the whole counsel of God and warns that after his departure savage wolves will come among them not sparing the flock. (Read 2 Peter 2:1-3 and Revelation 2:12-29)
Let us pray to Father God that He will lead us into all truth by His mighty Holy Spirit and that each one would come into a deep revelation knowledge of Jesus Christ as He is the truth of God.
