This comes at a time when the NGO is assisting families residing at Gwenzi village in Mount Selinda who were rendered homeless after political violence that was perpetrated by Zanu (PF) thugs.
Speaking at the handover ceremony of 129 shelter units to the affected families, the IOM Programmes Director Natalia Perez said: “As an organisation that is concerned with sustainable development, we have decided to set up shelter units for the families that were rendered destitute following a dispute at the farm they were living on.”
The US$3m shelter units that include a classroom block and five boreholes were constructed under the Internally Displaced Persons programme.
The NGO has also handed over a grinding mill as part of an income generating project for the villagers at Mugondi primary school.
“This is part of a community-based planning programme, which enhances development partners to share ideas for the benefit of the community,” added Perez.
