Development and Relief Agency of Zimbabwe, officially bankrolled a US$ 220 000 donation to Gweru City Council which will be used for sanitation projects in most.
The sanitation project will see the rehabilitation of water and sewer systems; the drilling of boreholes, the installation of water tanks and the rehabilitation of toilets in several low density suburbs in Gweru. The project will also foster the formation of education, school and community health clubs.
Mtapa, Mambo and Mkoba suburbs including Sandara Schools will benefit from the projects.
ADRA country director, Dr Zivayi Nengomasha, said the organisation was meant to complement local authority and government development programs.
“We embarked on such a programme as a way of complementing the local authority and the government development programmes. As an organisation we want to see the transformation of livelihoods and as such we realized that these areas needed attention for the betterment of people.
Gweru Mayor Tedious Chimombe welcomed the move and said it would go a long towards improving the livelihoods of the city’s habitats.
