Water shortage hits prison

The water crisis here that has seen some areas going for weeks without water has not spared prisons in the city where prisoners are forced to rely on water from tankers.

According to prison guards, prisoners have to make do without baths and their health is being compromised by the unhygienic water they are drinking. The officials accused the government of not prioritizing issues around water.

Not only is the water situation affecting inmates, but prison officials and police officers have been without water in their homes.

Due to the prison’s highland location, it is experiencing the worst of the water shortage. Officials called on the government to divert some of the money spent on feeding the prisoners to clean water for the inmates to drink.
