Matabeleland Epidemiology and Disease Control officer, Dr Efison Dhodho, told The Zimbabwean that the ministry had finished training workers who will carry out the indoor spraying in affected areas.
"This year we are expecting one of the most successful indoor residual programmes. The ministry has already mobilised adequate chemical, manpower and equipment for the programme. We have already finished the training programme," said Dr Dhodho.
Dr Dhodho said that before the dollarization of the economy, the programme was difficult to implement because of inflation.
"Inflation impacted the programme heavily during this time and the ministry almost failed to carry out the annual malaria programme due to financial challenges," he said.
In Zimbabwe, Malaria is endemic in the hot and humid Zambezi valley and in the western and central parts of the country. The most affected areas are Binga, Hwange, Bubi, and Tsholotsho, all in the Matabeleland North province.
