Police Ban ZCTU March and Meeting

The police have banned the ZCTU from commemorating September 13 an event to mark police brutality that took place on September 13 in 2006. This commemoration has become a calenda event for ZCTU and has been commemorated each year since 2007.

The police say the commemoration has the potential threat of opening already healed wounds and also that 'political malcontents and criminals' might take advantage of the event to cause violence.

The ZCTU has already instituted a court challenge on this ban through the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.

Please find attached full text of the letter from the police banning the commemorations.
