Chidiya is one of the biggest and most progressive schools in Mashonaland East Province. It has an enrolment of over 1 000 children and 34 teaching staff. It is headed by a veteran Headmaster, Nyakutsikwa, who has been at the school since 1974.
“As community leadership we were humbled by the selflessness and generosity of parents who continue to assist with the development of the school, despite the current economic hardships.
Each household pledged 35 bricks and contributed immensely towards the digging of 14 pits for the toilet project. They have also given cash towards the construction of the toilets,” said Murewa South ward 26 councillor, Passmore Mangwiro, who is coordinating the development projects.
Mangwiro showed The Zimbabwean the construction of a concrete slab at the school assembly area which was being painted by parents. The parents recently assisted the construction of the local Agasto Bridge which has enabled children to have better access to schools, clinics, shops and other areas.
