Chombo snubbed the crucial conference as it was predominately MDC. “I am naturally disappointed with Minister Chombo’s conspicuous absence from this important conference and will take the issue to cabinet as such conduct is against the spirit of inclusiveness. There should be no room for partisan politics in government affairs. In future, local governments and other public institutions should be managed in an apolitical manner,” said the PM.
A city father at the conference said: “Chombo is the minister responsible for the gathered delegates and his failure to show up smacks of embarrassing political intolerance. This is the height of political backwardness on the part of failed Zanu
(PF) politicians. How can Chombo justify his absence from an annual event organised to strategize on how best people’s welfare could be improved?”
The PM expressed satisfaction with the improved service delivery achieved by most local authorities in face of prevailing challenges. UCAZ executive elections were
deferred as there were suspicions that there could be irregularities regarding the handling of finances by the current executive. A private auditing company was hired to verify the position of the finances and come up with findings within the next 12 days.
