Cheltenham charity IT Schools Africa yesterday sent off a shipment of 30,000 computers and monitors given to it from across the county and beyond.
In around six weeks, the shipment will arrive in Africa, where they will be given to schools, while teachers are trained to use them.
The charity's Simon Richardson said: "We wanted to enable African children to gain IT skills that children over here take for granted."
He said the computers were expected to last around six years, then would be recycled in Cape Town.
