The constituency used to be a Zanu (PF) stronghold under Oppah Muchinguri, but is now dominated by MDC-T under MP Trevor Saruwaka. Headman John Chimboza and Zanu (PF) ward chairman, Cephas Rondozayi , threatened villagers with eviction if they attended the meeting, but the villagers defied the order.
Lynnette Karenyi Chimanimani West MP told the rally: “Elections are not a Zanu (PF) thing. They will only be held with SADC approval.” She urged SADC to press for an immediate end to human rights violations and election violence by Zanu (PF).
