Man stabbed to death at Gweru River

A robbery attempt ended tragically over the weekend here when a local 35-year-old man was stabbed to death during a scuffle. Police spokesperson, Assistant Emmanuel Mahoko, said investigations are in progress and urged members of the public to assist.

“A man died after being stabbed with a knife in an attempted robbery that occurred at Gweru River Bridge at around 1730 hrs on Sunday. May members of the public assist us with information to arrest the culprit,” he said.

The deceased, Takesure Mudyanegava, was walking home in the company of a female colleague Miriam Sigauke. “When the two approached Gweru River Bridge 800m from the city centre, they were approached by an unknown man who demanded money,” said a senior policeman.

The assailant pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed Mudyanegava on the left side of his chest before disappearing. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Gweru Provincial Hospital.
