John Cowing, Managing Director of GoIndustry DoveBid SA, who will conduct the online auction, believes the two tugboats will be crowd pullers “Throughout their life as working tugs in harbours, they have been maintained to the highest standards while in service and were equipped for fire fighting and salvage,” he said.
The tugs, named “Brenton” (originally christened the PCP du Plessis) and the “Imonti” (originally christened Kobus Loubser), were both commissioned in 1977 for the authority that controls and manages all seven commercial ports on the South African coastline.
Other boats of interest include the pilot boat “Port of Durban” (ex-Roy Forbes), a Class V1 passenger vessel commissioned in 1982; a 130-ton, 21m-long barge; a Demag 7.5-ton wharf crane with an approximate weight of 120 tons; and a Hyster 12-ton forklift powered by a 6-cylinder diesel engine.
The company has 34 offices in 20 countries, and has been conducting online auctions since 2000, using proprietary auction software that took over 10 years to develop.
