500 unique pieces

Under the watchful eye of Chief Welder Saidi Dayton and Workshop Supervisor Edison Chirimaunga Totem Shumba has grown its repertoire to more than 500 unique wrought iron pieces. In addition, their products are not only appreciated by the high net worth individuals – but by people from all walks of life.

“Whilst we have always worked with iron metal all our lives, coming to Totem Shumba changed our relationship with wrought iron. Seeing how this raw material became something so valuable to another person’s home and office space and making a difference in their environments is something we wanted most in our homes.

“We wanted such lovely things too, but we could not afford them, Gloria’s philosophy was that Totem Shumba cannot have people who are making beautiful things that they cannot afford to buy for themselves. So she went ahead and provided the materials and we made our own beds during our spare time in the workshop. No other employer has ever afforded us that opportunity. This has made us look at the products differently because now we can also believe that we can pass on these items to future generations in our families,” said Saidi Dayton.
