
Athletics coach Tendai Tagara said Tavengwa has had a long training stint for over five months in Kenya and knows exactly what to expect on the big stage on Sunday. Her male marathon colleagues, Cuthbert Nyasango and Wirimayi Juwawo, were scheduled to leave Harare on Sunday, for their event programmed next Sunday, on the last day of the Games – 12 August.
There was excitement on Monday night when Kirsty Coventry qualified for the 200m individual medley relay final after finishing third in her semi-final event. She is still a major medal hope for the country.
Rower Jamie Fraser-MacKenzie qualified for the men’s singles sculls final. He came third in the semis on Monday night. Micheen Thornycroft was still yet to compete in the women’s singles sculls quarter final while triathlete Chris Felgate competes on Tuesday.
