Border Gezi trainees bitter

Graduates from Zanu (PF)’s Border Gezi national youth service training programme have expressed their frustration that they were excluded from the party-driven indigenisation programme in the province.

“We have played pivotal roles in Zanu (PF) programmes in the province over the years. We have been campaigning and voting for the party and we used to intimidate villagers to support Zanu (PF), thinking that in return we would benefit,” said an irritated graduate who cannot be named for security reasons.

“We worked hard for Zanu (PF) on the pretext that we would get jobs at Mbada Diamonds and Anjin investments in Chiadzwa, but nothing has materialised,” said another graduate.

In has been established, however, that Anjin, a Chinese diamond mining company, has started recruiting some of the youths to replace fired striking workers.

The sources accused a senior Zanu (PF) senior functionary of selectively facilitating the recruitment of Zanu (PF) youths from Mutare, where he is eyeing a seat in the next parliamentary elections.

The graduates, also known as Green Bombers, said they were promised powerful positions in the Zanu (PF) National Youth League but were yet to be given the posts.

“During the Zanu (PF) congress here we were also excluded from the programme, but we were told that we would get powerful positions in the National Youth League. We believe that we have been used,” said the youth.
