No major changes in Twenty 20 World Cup squad

The Zimbabwe national cricket team selectors have not made major changes to the Zimbabwean team for next month’s Twenty 20 World Cup after making the team public on Thursday.

The only notable exclusion is that of all rounder Shingi Masakadza who was expected to make up the squad and make up three Masakadzas in the national teams as Wellington is with the Under 19 squad at the ongoing World Cup in Australia while Hamilton is in the team heading to Sri Lanka.

But that will not be the case. Instead the selectors have opted for Richard Muzhange and Brian Vitori who were vying for the same position with Shingi with head of selectors Givemore Makoni admitting that it was not an easy decision to leave out Singi.

Makoni said although Shingi is more experienced that Muzhange and Vitori he revealed that the two did more to justify their selection with outstanding performances of late.

Otherwise the rest of the squad remains the familiar faces with Brendon Taylor captaining the side and is expected to produce the sort of assured performance he has displayed as Zimbabwe seeks a better show at the cricket extravaganza.

Seasoned players Vusi Sibanda, Raymond Price, Elton Chigumbura, Prosper Utseya, Craig Ervine and Kyle Jarvis have all retained their places in the squad amongst a host others.

Five players including Shingi Masakadza have been placed on standby in case something happens before the tournament starts.

Zimbabwe have been draw in a tough group that also includes the hosts Sri Lanka and neighbours South Africa and hope to spring a surprise and qualify for the Super Eight stage.
